A sheng pu'er style trà phổ nhĩ tea from Tây Côn Lĩnh mountain in Ha Giang, Vietnam. Produced by our friend Xon in the Spring of 2020 & placed in traditional wet storage as maocha prior to compression in late 2022.
this tea came as an initial surprise. I was in the mountains, buying as much white tea as I possibly could. due to landslides and extreme weather, xon was stuck on the opposite side of the mountain without access to communication.
days later, we were 20 minutes away from departing the region before xon soars in with a hired driver in a pick-up truck with his hands full of the material we have since pressed into dissipation spells. We made the exchange and I jumped on the bus back to the city.
the following morning, I went to sit with the tea and to my surprise, when I opened the bag, there was another bag full of raw maocha inside of it. the initial disarray shifted the following hour once we decided to blend the two to try in ceremony. it was there, without question, I decided to keep the bag and have them pressed into our first young raw cake.
I recommend blending this with dissipation spells to share in the sentiments of how this tea came to be.
this is a primary example of the energetics and complexity of the ecology of these mountains. expanding, diving, deep and grounding. rich and layered with a bite that finishes with an impeccable hui gan.
