from the floating hearth beneath the mountain’s edge

this was the first ever oolong tea I was taught to produce, and was a surprising result to receive. I think we all were quite taken back by how deep the energy played onto the ever journeying consistency of this tea’s sensory profile.

originally intended to be produced as a white tea due to the sweetness of the leaves emerging at the beginning of the autumn flush, a dance of severe storming and humidity conditions led to some undesirable weather conditions to ensure a smooth production. upon waking from intense thunderstorms, into a wake of overcast weather that would last for days, my teacher told us all rather poetically that this tea had chosen to become an oolong instead. we spent the following days learning how to effectively wither, roll and shake the leaves before roasting for two days.

the name comes as an abstract sentiment of what it was to produce tea here, in a facility prone to landslides and severe storming.

though incredibly dangerous at times, our friends are adamant to continue productions here, believing the tea is most pure when it does not need to be relocated up and down the mountain.
