an old tree shou pu’er tea from Bulang & Yiwu mountain in Yunnan, China.
Commissioned by our friend, Mr. Lee, this tea was birthed in tribute to thematics of the collection.
this collection, void encompassing, contemplates the dichotomy of black and white from a place of non-dualism, in a way that ponders how the two can be move between one another with presence and perception, to become something that is rather one in the same.
I was inspired to blend two materials for this tea- half from yiwu- known for it’s naturally sweet pu’er tea & half from bulang- known for it’s considerably more bitter pu’er tea. As on the flavour wheel, bitter is the precursor to sweetness. And as inspired by the flippant wisdom of many Asian street beliefs- tea is often reflective of life, with a shared semblance of beginning bitter, to then be savoured when it becomes sweet.
For this tea, we let the material for this tea rest for a year prior to compressing, to allow the wu-wei (wet pile) taste to mellow. What we are left with is an intrinsic, full bodied tea that is smooth and jewel-like in clarity.
