a 1999 shou pu’er style tea

Size

for sharpening the will & cultivating the backbone.

This is an aged dark tea akin to that of a shou pu’er tea, known locally in Vietnam as trà phổ nhĩ.

This tea was made in 1999 on request of a Taiwanese boutique pu’er label as a high quality, cost effective competitor to Yunnan pu’er in the market.

albeit a production and name that garnered fame from pu’er in yunnan, china, ha giang has been producing tea equivalent to that of raw mocha and pu’er tea for approximately the same time. merely divided by a river, the forests of yunnan spread well across the border of vietnam, as do the wild large leaf varietal tea trees. It is because of this, that the same respective tribes producing pu’er tea have long resided on each side of the border and have oftentimes migrated between these mountainous regions in search of resource, trade and home.
it was not until the early 2000s that clear border control was enforced to seperate the two regions. as a result, the production methods of yunnan have long been carried into the far north mountains of vietnam and have been passed down as the traditional method of processing tea in the region.

This is a tea that beckons for patience and deep, lengthy sits. Start with a long steeping to let the leaves open. What begins as a gentle reflection of aged material from this region, later opens to a world of energy and crystalline sensory expansion. This is driving tea. For sharpening the will, cultivating the backbone.
