a 2005 aged sheng pu’er tea from Lao Banzhang in Yunnan, China.

a true lao banzhang pu’er tea. this is my personal favourite tea from what I have shared thus far. passed onto me through our respected pu’er specialist and collector, panda. lao banzhang tea possesses a truly unique personality which has bridled it the title of ‘the king of pu’er tea’ a true journey tea, with so much to share on but a desire to let the leaf do the speaking.

Deep energy. Prolifically diverse. Complex, yet desirable and palatable. Well stored. Well aged. Ever growing and patient, with a long lingering hui gan.

An initial bite to allow the tea to travel deep into the senses, and eventually beckoning worlds of unparalleled sensory immersion. Layers upon layers of mature sweetness and genre defying sensation. This is a tea that will stay with one, both on the pallet and in the heart, for hours in the wake of drinking.

A combination of Yunnan traditional and Taiwanese dry storage lends great favour to this tea, allowing for a youthful character to be carried by a mature body and depth- this is an incredibly comfortable sheng pu’er to drink, in all dimensions of the word. this is a tea that captures the rich expression of authentic Lao Banzhang tea, from an age just before the major boom which gave this region it’s famed accolade.
